COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew announced Wednesday morning that the Club has officially acquired winger Andres Herrera from River Plate for an undisclosed transfer fee. The deal sees Herrera don the Black & Gold through the 2028-29 MLS season, with a Club option for the 2029-30 season.
Herrera has made 43 appearances (29 starts) for the Crew while on loan from River Plate. He will occupy an international roster slot and make his return to the Crew’s roster upon the opening of the transfer window later this month.
“Andres has been a great fit for our Club’s desired style of play and culture, and we are delighted that he will continue his career in Columbus,” said Issa Tall, Columbus Crew General Manager.
“Since he arrived in Columbus, he’s displayed his positive attitude, competitiveness, and strong work ethic every day. We look forward to his continued contributions and development as a member of the Black & Gold.”
Herrera joined Columbus on loan in August 2024, tallying five goals and five assists over the last two years. He has appeared in five postseason matches (three starts), recording one goal and one assist.
Before joining, Herrera spent the 2022-24 seasons with River Plate, appearing in 89 matches and scoring two goals. He helped River Plate secure the Primera Division title, the Supercopa Argentina and the Trofeo de Campeones in 2023.
“I am very happy to stay with the Columbus Crew. I am excited to continue to contribute to the team and win more championships together. My family and I are very happy to continue this chapter of our lives,” said Herrera.
Herrera began his professional career in 2018 with San Lorenzo de Almagro, playing through the 2021 season and recording six goals in 62 matches.
