The Columbus Crew announced Tuesday morning that the club has re-signed defender Rudy Camacho. The centerback joined the Black & Gold midway through the year, helping anchor the backline en route to their third MLS Cup in franchise history. Joining in the summer, Camacho has played every minute of the club’s playoff run.
Camacho appeared in eight of his 11 regular season matches, before recording 570 total minutes in the playoffs.
“Rudy has been incredibly strong and consistent since joining the Crew as his veteran leadership and steady presence commanding our backline played a key role in our championship campaign,” Columbus president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in the release announcing Camacho’s re-singing.
“He was instrumental in helping us win MLS Cup and we look forward to seeing his contributions extend even further during his first full season with the original Black & Gold.”
Before making the move to Columbus, Camacho played for CF Montreal. He appeared in 128 regular season matches (126 starts) from 2018-2023, tallying seven goals and one assist. Winning Defender of the Year in 2021, the L’Arbresle, France native tied a club record for goals scored by a defender in a single season with three.
Camacho made his professional debut with AS Nancy’s reserve, making contributions in 52 games. Camacho then moved to AS Lyon-Duchere, appearing in 51 regular season games and one Coupe de France game.
Camacho later joined CS Sedan Ardennes in 2014, helping the club earn promotion to the French third division before being named captain and appearing in 29 matches.
