The Columbus Crew announced the club’s end-of-year roster decisions on Tuesday afternoon. The Black & Gold exercised the contract options of seven of the team’s players from the 2023 season, while 14 players were already under contract for next year.
Columbus exercised the options of goalkeeper Patrick Schulte, center-back Philip Quinton, wing backs Mohamed Farsi and Will Sands, attacking midfielders Alex Matan, Kevin Molino and midfielder/center-back Sean Zawadzki.
The players already under contract for the Crew for the 2024 season include goalkeeper Evan Bush, center backs Malte Amundsen, Rudy Camacho and Yevhen Cheberko, defenders Keegan Hughes and Steven Moreira, wing back Yaw Yeboah, midfielders Aidan Morris, Darlington Nagbe and forwards Max Arfsten, Cucho Hernandez, Christian Ramirez, Diego Rossi and Jacen Russell-Rowe.
Columbus declined the contract options of goalkeeper Brady Scott, defenders Jimmy Medranda and Jake Morris and midfielder Isaiah Parente. The Crew’s loan for defender Gustavo Vallecilla from the Colorado Rapids will expire on Dec. 31. Defender Josh Williams and midfielder Julian Gressel are out of contract. Gressel, Medranda and Williams — who announced they intend to retire following the season — will be eligible for MLS free agency, while Jake Morris, Scott and Parente will be eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Process.
This follows a season in which the Black & Gold won the MLS Cup. Columbus defeated LAFC 2-1 in the MLS Cup Final on Saturday at Lower.com Field to capture the club’s third league title.
