The Columbus Crew found a much-needed road win Saturday night, defeating CF Montreal 2-0 at Stade Saputo with second-half goals from Mohamed Farsi and Brais Mendez.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Columbus broke through in the 57th minute when Faesi found the back of the net to give the Crew a 1-0 advantage. The goal changed the complexion of the match, giving Columbus a much-needed momentum boost.

The Crew had been unable to find a breakthrough in the first half, but came out of halftime with greater attacking intent. The opening goal allowed Columbus to settle into the match while forcing Montreal to take more risks in search of an equalizer.

Columbus doubled their advantage 11 minutes later.

In the 68th minute, Brais Mendez scored to make it 2-0 giving the Black & Gold the breathing room it needed to see out the final stages of the match.

For Mendez, the goal continued his impact since joining Columbus during the summer. His arrival has given the Crew another attacking option, and his ability to contriubte in the final third proved important once again.

With a two-goal advantage, Columbus focused on managing the remainder of the match rather than allowing Montreal opportunities to get back into it.

Patrick Schulte helped ensure the clean sheet, making two saves as Columbus limited Montreal’s attacking chances.

The result also gave the Crew an important response after last week’s 1-0 home loss to the New York Red Bulls. Columbus struggled to turn possession into meaningful attacking chances against New York, but the Crew found the finishing touch they needed against Montreal.

It was also a result that came against a Montreal side struggling for consistency. The loss extended CF Montreal’s home winless streak to nine MLS matches, and the club has now lost five straight.

For the Black & Gold, however, the focus is less on Montreal’s struggles and more on securing three points.

Columbus entered the match needing a result in the final stretch of the regular season. While the 2026 campaign has been marked by inconsistency, Saturday’s performance gave the Crew another positive result to build upon.

More importantly, the Crew turned a scoreless match into a comfortable road victory.

After a frustrating first half, Columbus found its breakthrough, added a second goal shortly afterward, and protected the advantage without allowing Montreal to find a way back into the match.

The Crew will now look to carry that momentum into the next stage of the season, with the U.S. Open Cup final against St. Louis CITY SC also looming on Oct. 21.

For one night, Columbus got the result it needed, and did it without conceding a goal.
