The Crew release “The Home Kit”

The Columbus Crew unveiled a new look late Friday morning ahead of the 2024 season and just over a week before it begins its defense of MLS Cup. Known lovingly as the “Banana Kit” by the Crew faithful, the primary jersey receives some modifications ahead of the February 24th home opener against Atlanta United.

Dubbed “The Home Kit,” the new shirt replaces “The Gold Standard” design and pays homage to the architecture that can be seen around Lower.com Field and the developing neighborhood of Astor Park. Located next to Lower.com Field, Astor Park gets its name from the Astor House, an esteemed hotel in New York City where Thomas Cahill founded the United State Football Association, which later became the United State Soccer Federation in 1913.

The kit features the famous yellow shirt color that Crew fans have come to know and love. It boasts the famous Adidas three-stripe design down the shoulders and has a defined black trim around the collar. Black trim also runs from the underarm and to the bottom of the shirt. On the front of the shirt is a black design that pays tribute to Lower.com Field.

Further inspection of the back of the kit yields the outline of the State of Ohio with the words “The Heart of American Soccer.” The inspiration for this comes from the “massive moments within the beautiful game that have happened in Columbus, including hosting the Men’s and Women’s national teams,” said the Crew in a press release Friday. Another cool feature of the kit is the words “Todos Son Invitados,” which translates to “Everyone Is Invited,” and has the coordinates of LDC featured on the inside of the collar.

“We are proud to launch The Home Kit, signifying a club and a city at the heart of American soccer,” said Josh Glessing, Chief of Strategy & Development at Haslam Sports Group. “The inspiration of the kit reflects that some of the most massive and iconic moments in the sport have happened in Columbus. Soccer is always at home in Columbus and we are excited to see our team wear a kit that represents that message.”

The Black & Gold begins its title defense against Atlanta United on February 24th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 PM.

  1. There needs to be something said about the Charlie Brown look and the overwhelmingly negative fan reaction. That was conspicuously missing in the article.

  2. Why does new kit look some much like Nashville’s? Why are the ‘Black and Gold’ still wearing yellow? Design resource may need to change.
