The Columbus Crew announced Tuesday afternoon that the Club have signed Nariman Akhundzada from Qarabağ FK of the Azerbaijan Premier League. Akhundzada joins the Black & Gold as part of the U22 initiative and will occupy an international roster spot, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa. He is under contract until June 2029.
Akhundzada featured in 13 Azerbaijan Premiere League matches for Qarabağ during the 2025-26 season, registering three goals. He also recorded two goals and two assists in just six starts during the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds, guiding Qarabağ to a spot in the league phase of the infamous competition. He then appeared in six matches, registering one assist.
For Qarabağ, he appeared 127 times, recording 35 goals and 17 assists, guiding them to three consecutive titles and an Azerbaijan Cup.
“Nariman brings a different skillset that will add another dimension to our team,” said General Manager Issa Tall.
“His technical abilities, combined with his work rate, will align well with our style of play. Despite his young age, Nariman has already gained valuable experience domestically, at European levels and with his national team. We’re excited to welcome him to Columbus, and we are looking forward to seeing his development at our Club.”
From Lankaran, Azerbaijan, Akhundzada joined Qarabağ’s academy at age nine in 2013, making his professional debut in 2022 against Shamakhi at age 18.
Akhundzada additionally earned 13 caps (10 starts) with the Azerbaijan Men’s National Team. He also made 16 appearances (all starts) at the U-19 and U-21 levels, tallying three goals.
