It appears the Columbus Crew will enjoy some much-deserved time off this weekend as the club’s match against NYCFC has been rescheduled. Originally scheduled for this coming Saturday, August 9, the contest was postponed to Wednesday, September 17th, due to what NYCFC is calling “required field maintenance” at Citi Field.
According to our friends at Hudson River Blue, maintenance is required following a series of events, such as a K-pop concert by the band Blackpink, which took place in the outfield. The club confirmed that via a statement on Wednesday evening.
“Following a high volume of events at Citi Field and the intense heat and weather conditions in New York City, the stadium’s grass sustained considerable wear and tear in recent weeks. To ensure the best and safest playing surface for all athletes, the field has been resodded. As a result, only baseball events are permitted at Citi Field for a minimum of three weeks while the field fully recovers.”
As a result of the postponement, the Black & Gold’s next match is scheduled for Saturday, August 16th at 7:30 PM.

I’m glad this happened. We desperately needed a break. This is also a good chance for Picard to become familiar with the team a bit longer.
