The Columbus Crew has secured a new loan agreement with River Plate for defender Andres Herrera, extending his loan for one additional year. The loan runs through June 2026 and includes a Club option for the permanent transfer of Herrera. The Argentine will return to the Black & Gold roster, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa.
Since joining in 2024, Herrera has appeared in 22 games (11 starts), tallying two goals and two assists in MLS.
“Andres has shown his professionalism and talent since he first joined our Club, and we are pleased to extend his tenure in Columbus. He has and will continue to demonstrate his competitive spirit and make a meaningful contribution to our group as we enter the second half of the season,” said Crew General Manager Issa Tall.
Before making his way to the Columbus Crew, Herrera spent three seasons with River Plate, appearing in 89 matches and recording two goals. In 2023, he helped his side win the Primera Division title, Supercopa Argentina, and the Trofeo de Campeones. Herrera appeared in just 18 matches during the 2024 campaign, with three coming in the Copa Libertadores.
The Columbus Crew are back in action Wednesday night as they take on Nashville SC. Kickoff from Geodis Park is set for 8:30 p.m. EDT. You can watch the match on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV+.
