The Columbus Eagles return to the pitch in 2025 looking to continue their recent success in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). Columbus have enjoyed strong finishes in conference play during the last two season, finishing the 2023 campaign in first place in their division (6-1-1) and tallying 39 goals while allowing just 12.
The 2024 season also saw success with the Eagles going 5-1-2 and grinding out 22 goals, while conceding 12.
2025 looks to be another successful year for the semi-pro side. A bulk of the roster is set to return, but there will be new faces within the club, including on the bench. Former head coach Matt Ogden has departed the club, leaving to coach Kings Hammer Columbus that will compete in United Soccer League (USL) League 2. This has opened the door for Ohio Dominican Women’s Soccer Head Coach Tony Daniels to step into the role.
Daniels is currently the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at ODU, where he has led the program from 2023 to the present. Prior to his stop in Columbus, he was at the helm of the University of Rio Grande’s women’s soccer program from 2016 to 2023, guiding the team to multiple River States Conference Championship appearances and producing numerous scholar-athletes. During his tenure, the program saw remarkable academic achievements, including an overall team GPA of 3.5, as well as multiple All-Conference and All-American honors.
Additionally, Tony Daniels was a long-time assistant coach for the University of Rio Grande’s men’s program from 1991 to 2016, contributing to two NAIA National Championships (2003, 2015) and multiple deep tournament runs. His ability to recruit and develop high-caliber talent, both domestically and internationally, has been a hallmark of his coaching career.
He will be in charge of an Eagles team that will play an eight game schedule this summer kicking off on Sunday, May 18th against FC Dayton at Historic Crew Stadium. That game will be featured as part of a doubleheader with Columbus Crew 2.
Five days later the Eagles move to their new home at Fortress Obetz where they will host the remainder of their home contests for the season. They welcome Corktown WFC on May 23rd.
The Eagles return home on June 13th where they host Beadling SC, before heading back on the road the next two weeks. Columbus wraps the season up on June 22nd with its regular season finale against Greater Toledo SC.
