The Columbus Crew announced on January 9th that it has re-signed goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen to a contract extension through the 2026 season, with options for 2027 and 2028.
During his first season with the Crew, Hagen appeared in seven matches (six starts) across all competitions, including the 3-1 League Cup Final win over LAFC. In 2024 alone, Hagen made four regular-season appearances (three starts) and made 19 saves. In addition, the Guatemalan international started three matches and recorded five saves to help the Crew claim the League Cup title.
“Nicholas is an important member of our goalkeeping group who showcased his quality in several performances in 2024, including during our Leagues Cup championship run. In addition to his experience on the international stage, he is committed to his personal development and the team’s collective success, and we are pleased that he will remain a part of our Club,” said General Manager Issa Tall.
Beginning as a member of FC Dallas’ Academy, Hagen began his professional career in 2014 by siging with Guatemala’s CSD Munipal’s Under-20 team. With their senior team, Hagen tallied 55 shutouts in 132 matches across all competitions between 2016-2020. Hagen would lead his team to the 2017 Clausura and 2020 Apertura titles.
Hagen transitioned to the Azerbaijani Premier League, joining FK Sabail in 2020, where he recorded six shutouts in 27 matches. During 2021-22, Hagen saw the pitch in 41 matches, tallying 14 shutouts with Hamarkameratene of the Norwegian top flight before signing with Bnei Sakhnin of the Israeli top division, playing in four matches.
“I’m excited to continue my journey with the Columbus Crew,” Hagen said. “The culture within this organization is truly unique and special and is somewhere that I want to continue to grow. I’m eager for what’s ahead and can’t wait to keep striving for more trophies with the Crew.”
