Columbus Crew re-sign veteran goalkeeper Evan Bush

Columbus Crew veteran goalkeeper Evan Bush has re-signed a deal that sees the Crew keeper staying put in Central Ohio for the 2025 Major League Soccer campaign.

Bush has started in 190 MLS contests, making 606 saves and collecting 42 shutouts. The Concord Township, Ohio, native joined CF Montréal (formerly Montreal Impact) in 2011, the team’s final season in the United Soccer League (USL). He spent nine seasons in Quebec, appearing in 176 regular-season matches before making the trip west to join the Vancouver Whitecaps.

At the collegiate level, Bush played for the University of Akron from 2005-2008, posting 62 wins and 48 shutouts. During his time with Akron, the goalkeeper earned the 2005 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Newcomer of the Year award and was named to the following Best XI teams: NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region (2008), All-Ohio Teams (2008), All-MAC First Team (2006-2008) and the Freshman-All American Team (2005).

He joined the Black & Gold in 2020 in a trade that saw $125,000 make its way toward Western Canada in exchange for Bush’s services.

The Crew backstop has proved an asset to the Crew locker room as he continues to be a source of knowledge and experience for a unit that contains Patrick Schulte, Nicholas Hagen, and Abraham Romero. This knowledge and experience is attractive to Crew General Manager Issa Tall and his staff.

“Evan provides great depth and a wealth of knowledge to our goalkeeper group, as well as strong veteran leadership to our entire locker room,” said Tall. “Evan embodies the traits that our Club values at all levels of competition, which he has consistently displayed throughout his career and will continue to offer our team in 2025.”

“I am excited to return for 2025 with a group that is hungry to continue the momentum we have built in recent years,” said Bush. “This group of players, staff and management is special, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this club. I look forward to seeing how high this group can go in the coming season.”

Bush’s signing marks the first signing of the Black & Gold’s offseason.
