Columbus Crew tame Red Bulls with last second stunner

The Columbus Crew won 3-2 against the New York Red Bulls in Saturday’s road match at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

Match Notes

    • The Black & Gold improved to a Club-record 66 points (19-6-9) this season, finishing second in the Eastern Conference and currently rank second in the Supporters’ Shield table, pending the result in the Houston Dynamo vs. LA Galaxy match.
    • Columbus has scored 72 goals in MLS play, the most goals scored in Club history. Last season, the team led MLS with 67 goals, tying the then-record initially set in 1998.
    • The Crew finished the regular season with 19 wins, their most in a single season.

    • Defenders Yevhen Cheberko and Malte Amundsen scored in tonight’s match. The defenders are Columbus’ franchise-high 17th and 18th unique goal scorers in MLS play this year, tied with six other clubs for fourth most in MLS history.
  • Midfielder AZ opened the scoring for the Black & Gold in the 2nd minute of the match, his second with the Crew.
    • Midfielder AZ earned an assist on the team’s second goal and has provided an assist in back-to-back matches to improve to four with the Club.
  • Defender Yevhen Cheberko recorded the Crew’s second goal in the 14th minute of the match, marking the first of his MLS career.
  • Defender Malte Amundsen scored the game-winning goal in the 90+7th minute of the match.

    • Cucho wore the captain’s armband for the Crew tonight with Midfielder Darlington Nagbe available for selection on the bench.
