Inter Miami CF, the reigning Leagues Cup champions, travel to Columbus Tuesday evening without star forward Lionel Messi to take on the defending MLS Champions, Columbus Crew. Both teams have enjoyed recent success as Miami went from worst to first with a complete roster makeover as they lead the Supporters Shield Standings and the Crew won MLS Cup by playing an imaginative, innovative, and fun brand of soccer. This battle of champions will be must watch soccer as Columbus looks to avenge a loss back in the middle of June.
The Black & Gold enter this match with a clean bill of health and no suspensions. Only goalkeeper Evan Bush will miss this match due to a prolonged arm injury. Fullback Andres Herrera who just joined the team, will not be available due to only just arriving.
Here is how the Crew might lineup
Head coach Wilfried Nancy was unsure of which goalkeeper he would start in this match, goalkeeper Patrick Schulte is the typical starter but has been away for the Olympics while goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen is coming off a shutout against Sporting Kansas City. Leagues Cup has seen many teams give the reins to their back up keeper to give them minutes, but as the final nears, teams will likely have their typical starters take over. It looks promising to see Schulte get the start in this match.
The defense will remain unchanged. Malte Amundsen, Rudy Camacho, and Steven Moriera will start this match. Fortunately, the defenders were not challenged much against Kansas City, and should not need as much rotation.
Wingback Dejuan Jones made an immediate impact in his debut for the Crew, scoring seconds after subbing into the match. Wingback Max Arfsten has impressed in the past two months as a starter, but Columbus gave up resources to get a left wingback in their prime. Expect Jones to get a chance to win the starting spot at left wingback, and Jones could start in this match. Wingback Mo Farsi will start again against Miami.
Midfielder and captain Darlington Nagbe will start alongside comrade Sean Zawadzki. A solid performance together against Sporting was just what the two needed before the much tougher match against Inter Miami. Miami have a defender suspended due to a red card which might move midfielder Sergio Busquets back towards centerback, this team is attack oriented and is willing to get into a battle to see who can score the most. Nagbe and Zawadzki will be critical in cutting off the passing lanes and maintaining possession.
Does Nancy tinker with the attacking trio? DP forwards Cucho Hernandez and Diego Rossi have their starting spots written in pen, both are prolific scorers and either could be the best player on the field in any game. Forward Christian Ramirez was on a hot streak but has cooled off, he does present a challenge to defenses as he can play as a target forward but has shown off his ability to play underneath and unsettle defenses. This might be a match Nancy attempts something different.
Midfielder Dylan Chambost scored on his debut in the friendly against Ashton Villa and his competitive debut against Sporting Kansas City. Chambost has shown that he can get in the box and find scrappy goals. Look for Chambost to get his first start for the Black & Gold.
