Five Columbus Crew players named to MLS All-Star Roster

The best of MLS touchdown in Columbus later this month to take on the best of Liga MX at Lower.com Field for this year’s MLS All-Star Game presented by AT&T. With five players chosen, the 2023 MLS Cup Champions lead the league with the selections. Defenders Rudy Camacho and Steven Moreira, midfielder Darlington Nagbe and forwards Diego Rossi and Cucho Hernandez are amongst the MLS roster as the full roster was released Monday afternoon.

The five Black & Gold selections tie a club best set in 1999 when the All-Star format was Eastern Conference vs Western Conference, with talent from all 12 teams in that time frame.

The 30 players were selected through a combination of fan, player and media voting (12 payers), head coach Wilfried Nancy (16 players) and two picks from MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Nagbe was one of the selections from Garber, with Houston Dynamo midfielder Hector Herrera being the other.

Columbus has been the sight of MLS’ summer event in 2000 and 2005. This year, the match and the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge make its way to Downtown Columbus for the first time since the inception of Lower.com Field in 2021.

Crew captain Darlington Nagbe has been named to the MLS All-Star roster three times (2016, 2022, and 2024), becoming the 10th player in MLS history to win four MLS Cups, with last year’s championship being his fourth. Nagbe recently surpassed 400 career games played last month. He has also appeared in all seven of the Crew’s Concacaf Champions Cup matches, en route to the June 1 final against CF Pachuca.

Former CF Montreal defender Rudy Camacho has earned his first All-Star selection. At 33, Camacho has appeared in 15 league games (14 starts) and scored his first goal for the Black & Gold this past weekend in the Crew’s 5-1 win over the New England Revolution.

2023 MLS Cup MVP Cucho Hernandez has also earned his first MLS All-Star selection after recording 10 goals and four assists in 13 games. In the Crew’s June 29th game, Hernandez tallied a goal and assist making him the second player in Crew history to record three goal contributions in consecutive games, and the ninth different player in Crew history to dispatch 10 goals in consecutive seasons, while adding two goals in six Champions Cup matches this year.

Steven Moreira, like Camacho and Hernandez, earns his first MLS All-Star selection after appearing in 17 matches for the Black & Gold, tallying two goals and two assists. Joining the Club in 2021, Moreira first made his appearance in the Club’s 2-1 win over Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup.

Lastly, Diego Rossi has claimed his second All-Star selection (2019, 2024) after recording five goals and eight assists in 18 matches this season. At 26, the Uruguayan led the team with four goals after appearing in all matches in the Concacaf Champions Cup. Rossi was the youngest player in MLS history to earn the MLS Golden Boot during his tenure with LAFC in 2020. Rossi returned to MLS on August 2 last year from Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig. Surpassing eight goals and 11 assists, Rossi had appeared in all postseason matches en route to winning the 2023 MLS Cup with the Crew.

With these five selections, the Crew have a combination of 31 players selected to the MLS All-Star game in history.
