The Columbus Crew is down another key piece for tonight’s match against Nashville SC, with reports saying that striker Cucho Hernandez will be unavailable for selection. Massive Report can confirm that the Black & Gold will be without its star striker, in a match that Columbus was already without three key pieces.
A loss like Cucho weights heavy for Crew’s production in front of the net. Columbus will rely on forwards Jacen Russell-Rowe and Diego Rossi to get a win on the road.
Including the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, Hernandez has recorded a goal contribution in 10 consecutive matches (Oct. 7. 2023 – March 2, 2024), tallying nine goals and two assists during that timeframe. With the game-winning goal against Atlanta United in the 2024 season opener, Hernandez became the first reigning MLS Cup MVP to score in a season opener match. Additionally, he became the 15th player in MLS history to reach 40 goal contributions (26 goals, 14 assists) in his first 44 MLS regular season matches or fewer, and currently sits tied for 14th for most in league history.
Hernandez has recorded 15 goal contributions in the past thirteen regular season matches, dating back to the 2023 campaign. The Colombian forward did not register a goal contribution in the Crew’s 2-0 loss to Charlotte FC.
In addition, Cucho has scored 18 goals in his past 20 appearances across all competitions for Columbus.
The Crew looks to collect three points against a Nashville SC squad that also is without major key pieces. You can watch the match on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m EDT.
