The Columbus Crew announced Wednesday morning that the Club has signed Mohamed Farsi to a contract extension through 2027, with a Club option in 2028. Currently in his third season with the Black & Gold, Farsi has gone through the successful player pathway as his companion Jacen Russell-Rowe. Signed from Columbus Crew 2, Farsi has seen success since joining the Club in 2022 with the 2022 MLS Next Pro Cup, 2022 MLS Next Best XI honoree, and the 2023 MLS Cup.
“When we first signed Mo to Crew 2 in 2022, we knew that he had the potential to develop as a player and become a key contributor to the First Team, and we are proud to have signed him to the contract extension,” President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko said.
“Mo’s competitive nature and resilient spirit have been on display every day since he joined the team, and he has earned this new contract with the work he puts forth in games and during training. It was a priority for us to secure his long-term future with the Club as part of our growing core group of younger players, and we are pleased that Mo will continue with us and develop as a member of the Crew for years to come.”
Farsi appeared in 31 regular-season matches (23 starts) in 2023, registering five assists. Farsi appeared in all three of the Crew’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, tallying the lone goal against Indy Eleven, and additionally appeared in all three Crew’s League Cup matches.
During the postseason, Farsi appeared five times (four starts), including playing 86 minutes in the MLS Cup Final.
Farsi first signed with Crew 2 in March of 2022, playing 11 games of the MLS Next Pro season before making two appearances for the First Team on a short-term loan.
September 18, Farsi played the first half for Columbus against the Portland Timbers before making the trek to Historic Crew Stadium to play in the second half of Columbus Crew 2’s 9-0 win over in-state rival FC Cincinnati 2. Farsi notched two goals and three assists in just 45 minutes.
“I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to continue my journey with the Columbus Crew. I would like to take the time to thank the whole organization, the coaches, and all the staff for their trust; that means a lot to me. A special thanks to my family and friends who have supported me since day one; you are my source of motivation. Finally, thank you to the fans who, during good and hard moments, were always behind me, supporting me. Can’t wait to get the season started on Saturday and play at home again.”
Mo Farsi and the Columbus Crew take on Atlanta United at home at 2 pm. You can catch the match on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
